The Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) is a dynamic, worldwide copyright licensing organization committed to protecting the intellectual property rights of the creative community. In 1986, MPLC embarked on a journey to make it as simple and easy as possible for companies, organizations, and associations to obtain a license to exhibit movies, TV, and other content outside of the home. Since the introduction of MPLC’s pioneering Umbrella License® in the United States, MPLC now represents the public performance rights of over a thousand rights holders, with local presence in over 40 countries around the globe.

MPLC works closely with a variety of institutions, associations, and anti-piracy groups to educate people about copyright – particularly public performance copyright – and promote the intellectual property rights of our clients, the creative community.

MPLC licenses over hundreds of thousands of locations worldwide, including, but not limited to nonprofit organizations, corporations, and government entities like senior living facilities, libraries, dentist offices, and schools.

The Investors

Tenzing, an independent private equity investor acquired a majority stake in MPLC in January 2020. Tenzing targets buyout investments in high organic growth, small or medium-sized enterprises. The firm believes in supporting, inspiring, and investing alongside high-energy, high-performance management teams with which it has a shared vision and the determination to substantially grow the business.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Board of Directors, including Tenzing, the CEO will strategize, set the agenda, and energetically drive forward MPLC’s growth goals.

Primary responsibilities:

Repeated experience of owning the entire P&L

  • Develop and execute on an actionable growth strategy
  • Ensure enhanced and continued service level requirements are being met as company scales
  • Create new business opportunities and decide which processes, practices and current relationships have run their course
  • Establish new, and nurture existing, studio relationships
  • Enhance and re-write MPLC’s profile and brand among both studios and licensees
  • Foster a culture of independent thinking and decision making twinned with fast implementation
  • Enhance the business model through improvements in processes, technology, and data
  • Drive excellence in Sales through process, people and analysis
  • Help create and drive a digital-led marketing strategy focused on both Sales and Brand
  • Partner with the board to consider strategic M&A opportunities

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has scaled mid-market companies ideally in entertainment, licensing, intellectual property, or subscription companies, on a global scale. We are looking for an energetic change driver with high emotional intelligence who can create and drive a vision for revenue growth, brand awareness and business transformation on a global scale.

You should have the following experiences and skill sets:

  • Transformational leadership skills with proven experience developing and driving a strategic plan to grow an organization to $20M+ EBITDA
  • Results-driven P&L management experience including how to manage toward specific KPIs, ROI, and profitable growth, ideally in a private equity-backed company
  • A talented strategic thinker who can create and translate a compelling business strategy into a clear plan and drive sales and marketing process and performance
  • A track record of empowering teams to be successful, with a player/coach mentality
  • A detailed-oriented mind which will love the legal complexity and data-driven needs of the business
  • Be excited by the opportunity to solve complex problems and see the benefits of overcoming obstacles
